This article stood out to be at various of different points in the story. When I first saw the name of this article I did not know what they meant by Silenced Dialogue. In society today no one realizes uses this term, but people are doing it everyday, especially teachers. This is because teachers think just because someone is a different race then you does not mean that they do not know how to control themselves and act respectively in a classroom. A kid of white could be acting up in class and a teacher would not even realize because she is to concentrated on thinking how she can get the colored kid in trouble. When I become a teacher down the road some day I will make sure that everyone gets the same amount of attention no matter what race they are.
After reading this article I was interested to see the percentage of Afrian-Amercians and other ethnicity rate of graduation in schools, either due to the lack of motivation or mainly not wanting to go to school because they are left out and made fun of because they are a different race then the majority of their school, in most cases. This is not right everyone should get the same amount of education no matter what their race is and teachers should not be able to become teachers if they are going to discriminate against opposite race as them. http://blackdemographics.com/education-2/elementary-high-school-education/ This article show the percentages of a variety of education for African Americans in the 2009-2010 academic school year.
This article got to me because I do not think it is fair that children of different race gets a different opportunity in classes to do as good as they can. It states in the article by Delpit that many of the parents come in for meetings to see what they can do to fix the kids attitude in the classrooms, but no one ever thinks that the kids is behaving and the teacher does not like something the kid did just because he is a different race. Kids in school; special needs, white, blacks, or even someone that isn't from this country and is just starting to learn English, as a second language should all have the same opportunity to have the same education no matter what their differences are. In my own personal opinion I think that if a teacher can not accommodate for everyone in the class then they should not be a teacher.
